Hair Loss
Hair loss is something we all hope will never happen to us. Men will in general be able to cope with it better as society seems to accept a bald or thinning man.
For a woman to loose her hair, is a very different story and most if not all women would say, the thought of loosing their hair terrifies them!
Have you started to to notice increasing amounts of hair in your brush or comb, or how your hair seems to be thinning. Maybe you’ve starting to change your hairstyle to cover up the thin spots!
You’re not alone, this far more common than you probably think and statistics show that one in four women faces Female Pattern Baldness (FPB).
Nobody knows the reason why some of us start to loose our hair, sure we can attribute some hair loss cases to treatments and certain medicines but thinning hair and hair loss in a seemingly well individual continues to challenge health professionals.
What can you do about it!
First of all, no two cases are the same; after all, we all lead different lives, eat different foods and expose our hair and bodies to different chemicals, treatments, stresses and abuse!
If you’re honest with yourself and look at your diet, maybe you’ll know it isn’t as good as it could be. Are you getting sufficient vitamins and nutrients for example! Are you eating fresh fruit and vegetables and getting the right balance of protein.
Zinc and vitamin B6 are needed for healthy hair. You can get both from chickpeas. Vitamin A is also important; a deficiency of both vitamin A and zinc can lead to dandruff which can contribute to hair loss.
Soy Beans are known as a good source of protein but also contain Iron and Vitamin E, Iron is essential for haemoglobin production and haemoglobin is needed to carry oxygen to the tissues of the body, essential for healthy hair growth.
Roast Beef is an excellent source of protien, vitamin B-6 and Zinc.
Fish is also a good source of protein whilst also containing Vitamin A, Vitamin B-6 and essential fatty acids (efa’s). EFA’s are important in maintaining healthy hair nails and skin.
Almonds are a good source of protein, Iron and Vitamin E and also thought to help lower cholesterol levels. Some drugs prescribed for lowering cholesterol, can be linked to thinning hair and hair loss.
