Resveratrol
Resveratrol is believed to have a number of health benefits, anti-cancer, antiviral, neuroprotective, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory to name a few.
Resveratrol is a naturally occurring substance found in certain plants and is produced by the plant as an anti-fungal chemical. Grape skins, peanuts, berries of Vaccinium species such as blueberries, bilberries, and cranberries. It can also be found in some pines, such as Scots pine and eastern white pine. Another good source of Resveratrol is the roots and stalks of giant knotweed and Japanese knotweed known as hu zhang in China.
Although first identified in 1940 Resveratrol made headlines in November 2006 when scientists demonstrated how it had kept overfed mice from gaining weight and seemed to slow down their ageing process.
